BBQ Fish 烤鱼
Wanzhou, Chongqing's number two city, is famous around China for its signature Wanzhou Kaoyu (万州烤鱼), a whole grass carp in a deep metal dish sizzling above hot coals. More often than not a mercilessly spicy meal, you can get lucky and find a restaurant that serves kaoyu lite garnished with fermented soya beans.
Its immense popularity makes it fairly easy to find pretty much anywhere, but for the most unique experience try the street next to #7 Middle School in Shapingba, across from the main gate of Chongqing University's B campus. This restaurant street once frequented by gangster types offers some of the most famous spots outside of Wanzhou.
